The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden was commissioned by Søndre Nittedal Veterankorps for their anniversary in 2024. The piece is based on the book by British author Frances Hodgson Burnett, and tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled young English girl being raised in India. After the death of her parents, she is sent to live at her mysterious uncle's Yorkshire estate, Misselthwaite Manor. Mary is disagreeable, spoiled, and used to being waited on. At Misselthwaite, she is mostly ignored and left to wander outside in the gardens. But the manor is full of secrets, and she also hears rumors of a mysterious garden, locked up for over a decade. Mary sets out to discover the secrets of Misselthwaite, and bring the garden back to life. This piece describes Mary's discovery of the garden, her personality change towards a softer and happier girl, and her ability to make the garden grow.
